Torn between platinum or yellow gold?

I wear all yellow gold jewellery, and always thought that I would have a yellow gold engagement ring and wedding band. However, my partner and I went looking on the weekend, and the majority of the rings in the stores were platinum. I have found a ring that I like, which was in platinum, and it looks amazing! The jewellers have told me that they can do it in platinum OR yellow gold, I just have to choose.

Yellow gold is seen as tacky? That is why jewelers don’t offer it as much as white metals? Oh, wow….

I don’t think so.

Metals in fine jewelry are subject to fashion trends just like clothing…..back when I was married for the first time, yellow gold was ‘THE’ color and white gold was seen as ‘tired and old fashioned/boring lol…..that was 1974. Guess what..my first engagement ring was white gold. Was I gonna let fashion trends dictate what I wore on my ring finger? NO! lol

So now it’s white metals….give it ten years and white metals will be seen as tacky, tired, and out dated and people will be clambering for yellow gold.

So very, very silly, really.

And poo-poo to those who say “Oh you CAN’T mix metals?” I say…
“Who says, the Fine Jewelry Fairy?”

I wear white gold (not todays stuff it’s not that great a quality), sterling silver and platinum, even stainless steel. Yet when I married the second time, two years ago, we opted for yellow gold-classic warm and always beautiful….my wedding rings stand out from the crowd because they don’t blend in with my other pieces.

Go with what YOU like, Hon and never mind the ‘fashion police’ as they contantly change their minds every few years……just think in a few years if you go with yellow gold all those white gold gals will look dated (such a silly thing, trends are) and you’ll be in style…until the fashion trends change again..lol

However platinum is always in style….good luck.
